Song

A song or song in English, is an artistic composition of tones or sounds in a sequence, combination, and temporal relationship (usually accompanied by musical instruments) to produce musical compositions that contain unity and continuity.

Songs are a way to express emotions and feelings in a fun way.

Structure

Intro

the first part of the song where the singer's voice has not been heard, only the instrument.

Verse or stanza

the introductory part to the Bridge chorus, is used to bridge between parts of a song. Like between a chorus with a verse or a chorus with a modulating chorus. The notes played on the bridge are generally very different from the verse and chorus.

Chorus

the main message or story of the song. Using a different tone pattern and more comfortable than the verse

Reff

means repetition.

 Coda

is the final part of the song with the tone and verse to close the song. In contrast to brigde, coda takes some pre-existing lyrics and notes.

Language Feature

Imagery (simile or imagination)

Describes about feelings and emotions, meaning that a song usually tries to describe the feelings that the writer feels.

  Rhythm (rhythm)

Rhythm here is used to create the mood. For example, if we are sad and listen to a song with a slow rhythm, we will get carried away with the song. So, rhythm creates mood!

  Figures of speech

Some figurative words used in a song

 Metaphor (metaphor)

At first glance, the two things being compared are unrelated, but actually there are similarities between the two things, for example: Time is a thief (time is a thief) or Her hair was silk (his hair is like silk).

 Simile (figuratively)

A thing is described with something similar using the word 'like' or 'as', for example: My love is like a red rose

Hyperbole (hyperbola)

A thing is described too much, sometimes it tickles because it's too much

 Personification (personification)

An object appears like a person means the object (not human) has the ability like a human. Such as: The wind whisper or The snowflakes danced in the wind.

 Alliteration (alliteration)

The repetition of the sound at the beginning of each word. For example: Peter Parker picks a pack of pants punctually (Peter Parker changes his suit on time).

One Direction – “One Thing”

So get out, get out, get out of my head

and fall into my arms instead

Example of song

Nothing - Bruno major

Track suits and red wine

Movies for two

We'll take off our phones

And we'll turn off our shoes

We'll play Nintendo

Though I always lose

'Cause you'll watch the TV

While I'm watching you

There's not many people

I'd honestly say

I don't mind losing to

But there's nothing

Like doing nothing

With you

Dumb conversations

We lose track of time

Have I told you lately

I'm grateful you're mine

We'll watch The Notebook

For the 17th time

I'll say "It's stupid"

Then you'll catch me crying

We're not making out

On a boat in the rain

Or in a house I've painted blue

But there's nothing

Like doing nothing

With you

So shut all the windows

And lock all the doors

We're not looking for no one

Don't need nothing more

You'll bite my lip and

I'll want you more

Until we end up in a heap on the floor

Mmm

You could be dancing on tabletops

Wearing high-heels

Drinking until the world

Spins like a wheel

But tonight your apartment

Had so much appeal

Who needs stars?

We've got a roof

But there's nothing

Like doing nothing

With you

Mmm

No, there's nothing

Like doing nothing

With you

Scientific writings such as theses, news, or research in English can be categorized in the type of exposition text. These writings certainly contain a lot of author opinions which of course are subjective.

Actually, what can be categorized as exposition text ? Are there any conditions that need to be met in writing this type of text?

Definition

Reporting from Reading Assets is a writing that is persuasive and tries to convince the readers or listeners. This paper usually contains important issues that are currently being discussed.

Of course, this article contains the author's opinion which can be said to be a one-sided opinion. Not only opinions, in this type of text almost all of the author's arguments against a problem.

So it can be said that exposition text is an open writing that can produce pros and cons for the author.

Writing that is classified as an exposition text is sometimes also known as argumentative text, because this text will be dominated by the author's arguments and that is the characteristic that distinguishes the type of exposition text from other texts.

Narrative text

 Part 1

Hi hi! Guys , in this article, the English Academy will again thoroughly explore one of the English texts that often appears and accompanies us in our daily life. After previously discussing explanatory text , procedural text , and exposition text , now it's the turn of narrative text .

If you still remember, narrative text is one of the materials generally studied by high school students. Try to remember again, what grade of English is this? By the way , in addition to being a study material, this text is also often present as a question in various tests, ranging from school exams, national exams, to the TOEFL. As we know, TOEFL is a test that tests a person's English skills. So, need to be prepared as well as possible, right?

Well , in order to understand in more detail related to narrative text , let 's learn together from the definition to the example text in this article!

Definition/Understanding Narrative Text

Narrative text is one type of text that tells a series of events with a chronological system or interconnected. Narrative text is generally imaginative, aka not real or in the form of the imagination of the author .

Oh yes , this text is often equated with English short stories. Maybe it's not wrong, but there are some differences too, lo . Check the difference through the English short story article: Definition, Structure, Characteristics, and Examples.

Then, can fiction novels be said to be narrative texts? Yep , a story in a fictional novel can be said to be a narrative text. This text is also often used as a story to do English story telling .

Tujuan Narrative Text (Purpose/Function of Narrative Text)

The social function of narrative text is to entertain the audience or readers . Therefore, this type of text is suitable for small children as well as teenagers and adults. The purpose of narrative text is the same as recount text, lo . However, narrative text is an imaginary story, while recount text is a real story. You can read the full article in the Recount Text article: Definition, Structure, Types, and Examples

Difference between Narrative Text and Descriptive Text

If you have read the explanation article about descriptive text , of course it will be easy to answer what is the difference between narrative text and descriptive text. Here are some of the differences:

1. Form of narration

In narrative text, the story is presented sequentially from one incident to another so as to form a unified story. Meanwhile, descriptive text focuses more on describing an object in detail.

2. Storytelling model

If you pay attention, narrative texts always tell about a topic carried out by characters (actors) with various characters. Therefore, in this text there is a conflict or cause and effect event.

Well, this is certainly different from the description text which tends to be more structured and detailed in explaining something.

3. Description of properties

In narrative text, the author will write a complete story with a sequence of events. Because it is fictional, the traits that will appear can be explicit or implicit, depending on the author's point of view.

Descriptive text tends to describe an object in detail, which is clear later in it will contain many adjectives.

4. Purpose of the text

In addition to entertaining the reader, another purpose of narrative text is for the reader to gain new knowledge, benefits, or lessons.

Meanwhile, descriptive text aims more so that the reader can clearly imagine the object described by the author.

Equation of Description Text with Narrative Text ( Narrative Text )

What do these two texts have in common? The similarity is that the presentation also involves the five senses so that it looks as if the reader has personally experienced the events narrated in the text.

In case descriptive text, it means as if the reader can see directly the object that is told in the text.

Generic Structure of Narrative Text

There are three structures of narrative text that you need to pay attention to if you want to create or read a narrative text , namely:

1. Orientation

In Indonesian, orientation means introduction. So, in the initial paragraph, narrative text usually contains the introduction of the characters and settings involved in the content of the story. In this case, the setting can be the scene as well as the time of the story.

2. Complication

This section will begin to enter the paragraph that tells about the beginning of the problem of an event or incident. Because it is chronological in nature, the problems that arise at the beginning will continue to be a series of long storylines that contain conflict, climax, and anti-climax. Oh yes , to make it easier for you, here's the arrangement in the complication :

Problem , which is a paragraph or sentence that begins to lead to the problem of a story.

Conflict , more complex, after there is a problem, then the story will continue to conflict. In this section, the audience will be curious about what happened between one character and another.

Climax , which is the peak of the conflict which is the main focus in narrative text .

Anti-climax , in Indonesian, this section is also known as conflict reduction. So, the conflict will decrease slowly.

Solution , as the name implies, which is a solution, then the paragraph in the solution section will explain the resolution of the conflict that has been described previously.

In this case, complications are divided into three conflicts, namely:

Natural conflict, natural or inter-universe conflict.

Social conflict, conflict between characters or actors.

Psychological conflict, inner conflict or self.

3. Resolution

Resolution is the end of the story or the conclusion of the story. This paragraph can be a further explanation of solution . In this section, the author can also describe whether the narrative text that is made will end with a sad ending or a happy ending .

4. Re-orientation

Actually, this structure is not mandatory in narrative text. However, generally the sentences in this paragraph will tell the last condition of the character in the story, or it can also contain lessons and moral messages that can be taken by the reader to be implemented in real life.

Biography

hello everyone

PART 1

Elizabeth II

Elizabeth II (Elizabeth Alexandra Mary; 21 April 1926 – 8 September 2022) was Queen of the United Kingdom and other Commonwealth realms from 6 February 1952 until her death in 2022. She was queen regnant of 32 sovereign states during her lifetime and 15 at the time of her death. Her reign of 70 years and 214 days was the longest of any British monarch and the longest verified reign of any female monarch in history.

Elizabeth was born in Mayfair, London, as the first child of the Duke and Duchess of York (later King George VI and Queen Elizabeth The Queen Mother). Her father acceded to the throne in 1936 upon the abdication of his brother Edward VIII, making the ten-year-old Princess Elizabeth the heir presumptive. She was educated privately at home and began to undertake public duties during the Second World War, serving in the Auxiliary Territorial Service. In November 1947, she married Philip Mountbatten, a former prince of Greece and Denmark, and their marriage lasted 73 years until his death in 2021. They had four children: Charles, Anne, Andrew, and Edward.

When her father died in February 1952, Elizabeth—then 25 years old—became queen of seven independent Commonwealth countries: the United Kingdom, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, South Africa, Pakistan, and Ceylon (known today as Sri Lanka), as well as head of the Commonwealth. Elizabeth reigned as a constitutional monarch through major political changes such as the Troubles in Northern Ireland, devolution in the United Kingdom, the decolonisation of Africa, and the United Kingdom's accession to the European Communities and withdrawal from the European Union. The number of her realms varied over time as territories gained independence and some realms became republics. As queen, Elizabeth was served by more than 170 prime ministers across her realms. Her many historic visits and meetings included state visits to China in 1986, to Russia in 1994, and to the Republic of Ireland in 2011, and meetings with five popes.

Syignificant events included Elizabeth's coronation in 1953 and the celebrations of her Silver, Golden, Diamond, and Platinum jubilees in 1977, 2002, 2012, and 2022, respectively. Although she faced occasional republican sentiment and media criticism of her family—particularly after the breakdowns of her children's marriages, her annus horribilis in 1992, and the death in 1997 of her former daughter-in-law Diana, Princess of Wales—support for the monarchy in the United Kingdom remained consistently high throughout her lifetime, as did her personal popularity.[1] Elizabeth died in 2022 at Balmoral Castle in Aberdeenshire, at the age of 96, and was succeeded by her eldest child, Charles III. Her state funeral was the first to be held in the United Kingdom since that of Winston Churchill in 1965.

PART 2

Nikola Tesla

Nikola Tesla (/ˈtɛslə/ TESS-lə; Serbian Cyrillic: Никола Тесла,[2] pronounced [nǐkola têsla];[a] 10 July [O.S. 28 June] 1856 – 7 January 1943) was a Serbian-American[5][6][7] inventor, electrical engineer, mechanical engineer, and futurist best known for his contributions to the design of the modern alternating current (AC) electricity supply system.[8]

Born and raised in the Austrian Empire, Tesla studied engineering and physics in the 1870s without receiving a degree, gaining practical experience in the early 1880s working in telephony and at Continental Edison in the new electric power industry. In 1884 he emigrated to the United States, where he became a naturalized citizen. He worked for a short time at the Edison Machine Works in New York City before he struck out on his own. With the help of partners to finance and market his ideas, Tesla set up laboratories and companies in New York to develop a range of electrical and mechanical devices. His alternating current (AC) induction motor and related polyphase AC patents, licensed by Westinghouse Electric in 1888, earned him a considerable amount of money and became the cornerstone of the polyphase system which that company eventually marketed.

Attempting to develop inventions he could patent and market, Tesla conducted a range of experiments with mechanical oscillators/generators, electrical discharge tubes, and early X-ray imaging. He also built a wireless-controlled boat, one of the first-ever exhibited. Tesla became well known as an inventor and demonstrated his achievements to celebrities and wealthy patrons at his lab, and was noted for his showmanship at public lectures. Throughout the 1890s, Tesla pursued his ideas for wireless lighting and worldwide wireless electric power distribution in his high-voltage, high-frequency power experiments in New York and Colorado Springs. In 1893, he made pronouncements on the possibility of wireless communication with his devices. Tesla tried to put these ideas to practical use in his unfinished Wardenclyffe Tower project, an intercontinental wireless communication and power transmitter, but ran out of funding before he could complete it.[9]

After Wardenclyffe, Tesla experimented with a series of inventions in the 1910s and 1920s with varying degrees of success. Having spent most of his money, Tesla lived in a series of New York hotels, leaving behind unpaid bills. He died in New York City in January 1943.[10] Tesla's work fell into relative obscurity following his death, until 1960, when the General Conference on Weights and Measures named the SI unit of magnetic flux density the tesla in his honor.[11] There has been a resurgence in popular interest in Tesla since the 1990s.

Descriptive text

 Hallo everybody

PART 1

DESCRIPTIVE TEXT, or in terms of writing only known as “description” is one of English lessons that should be mastered not only by junior high school students but also senior high school students, college students and anyone who loves English. Because after all, descriptive material is very necessary for the increasing of our English proficiency.

Some of the most famous authors, especially fiction writers, have good skill in writing descriptive text, so that their writing is very readable and easy to understand. Therefore, if we were able to master this lesson well, we might be able to become a great writer in the future.

Furthermore, I hope this explanation and example of the descriptive text can help my friend who is still in a long journey to learn English. Do not hesitate to read the explanation of descriptive text below, the more often we read about this text we will be able to understand it more. Furthermore it would be nice if we do not only understand mere, but we can also write descriptive text ourselves..

Maybe you are “bored” to learn narrative text, because of that, it’s time to discuss descriptive text so that our head is not merely contains stories and stories.

Definition of Descriptive Text

Descriptive Text is a text which says what a person or a thing is like. Its purpose is to describe and reveal a particular person, place, or thing.

In a broad sense, description, as explained by Kane (2000: 352), is defined like in the following sentence:

Description is about sensory experience—how something looks, sounds, tastes. Mostly it is about visual experience, but description also deals with other kinds of perception.

Thus, if we conclude it from Kane’s explanation above, the descriptive text is meaningful text that describes the experience related to the senses, such as what shape, sound, taste is. Most descriptive text is about visual experience, but in fact the experience other than the sense of sight, we can also use it to make descriptive text.

But in particular, the descriptive text is, “…… is a text which says what a person or a thing is like. Its purpose is to describe and reveal a particular person, place, or thing.”

So, it can be said that the descriptive text is a text that explains about whether a person or an object is like, whether its form, its properties, its amount and others. The purpose of the descriptive text is clear, that is to describe, represent or reveal a person or an object, either abstract or concrete

Generic Structure of Descriptive Text

When writing descriptive text, there are some generic structures (actually not mandatory) for our writing to be true. The arrangement is:

# Identification: (contains about the introduction of a person, place, animal or object will be described.)

# Description: contains a description of something such as animal, things, place or person by describing its features, forms, colors, or anything related to what the writer describes.

Purpose of Descriptive Text

– To describe person, thing or place in specific

– To describe a particular person, thing or place.

Language Feature of Descriptive Text

– Specific participant : has a certain object, is not common and unique (only one). for example: Bandengan beach, my house, Borobudur temple, uncle Jim

– The use of the adjective (an adjective) to clarify the noun, for example: a beautiful beach, a handsome man, the famous place in Jepara, etc.

– The use of simple present tense: The sentence pattern used is simple present because it tells the fact of the object described.

– Action verb: verbs that show an activity (for example, run, sleep, walk, cut etc.)

Example of Descriptive Text – My Favorite Teacher

My favorite teacher is my history teacher, and he is by far the best teacher that I have ever had. He has the ability to make a subject that many students find incredibly boring come to life through his enthusiasm and passion for history, and his love of being a teacher. Attending his lessons is something we look forward to, not dread, like we do with most other lessons.

It’s ever so funny to watch him get excited about something, which happens in every lesson. It’s easy to know that he’s getting excited because he begins bouncing up and down slightly in a way that no other sixty-something year old would ever managed without looking completely ridiculous. He has this dark (with more and more grey streaks these days), springy hair that lines the edge of his growing bald patch, and the hair bounces up and down with him like thousands of tiny little springs. Then, he takes on his whole new persona, often going into role and becoming the character or figure he is talking about, doing the voices, the actions, and parading up and down the room gesticulating wildly, but all the while there’s a gentle ‘bounce, bounce, bounce’, as though the springs are not just on his head but on the soles of his shoes too.

A teacher that doesn’t take himself too seriously always will be a big hit with teenagers, although he’s not afraid to impose his authority if he has to. I’ve only ever heard him properly shout once (although thankfully it wasn’t it me), but it isn’t an experience that I would like to repeat. When he lost it, the room suddenly became more silent than I’d ever known it to be before. We all sat slightly paralyzed, not even anting to breathe too loudly, because hearing such a jovial and jolly little man lose his temper was a huge shock. It certainly had the right kind of impact though, because he’s never needed to shout since.

It is actually this teacher that I have to thank for my love of history. In his lessons, history does not mean copying out of textbooks and writing pages and pages of notes. History is alive; history is something tangible, that you can see, hear and feel, and we can live it through dressing up and acting out scenes or taking trips to important places of historical interest. And although he’s getting on in years and may not be teaching for much longer, he will have an important place in history for many of his students, because there has never been a teacher able to bring a subject to life in quite the same way he does. concrete. Okey..

Controversial School Assignment Asks Students Who Is „Deserving‟ Of Life: A Homosexual Pro Athlete Or Black Medical Student? An Ohio middle school has apologized for an assignment that asked students to hypothetically save people‟s lives depending on their race, ethnicity and sexual orientation.

-Elaboration

The assignment, which was given out by an unidentified teacher at Roberts Middle School in Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio, instructed students to examine a list of 12 people selected to fly on a spaceship to another planet to avoid the Earth‟s destruction. However, due to the ship‟s space limitation, students must cut four people, ranking the list into “most deserving” and “least deserving” of life. According to Miller‟s Facebook page, parents raised their concerns to the school on Aug. 20. On Thursday, Todd M. Nichols, superintendent of Cuyahoga Falls City Schools, released a statement: “They were just made aware of the situation and are investigating,” according to local news station WOIO. “This paper divides,” she said. “It doesn‟t pull anybody together.” And parent Denise Petron asked of the teacher, “What did he expect to get out of this?” On Facebook, Miller confirmed that the assignment was part of a seventh-grade math class and that parents had reached out to the city councilman as a “last resort” after their complaints went unanswered by the school. In the comments section of Miller‟s post, parents reacted. “I‟m honestly having a hard time believing that anyone thought this was appropriate to give to kids,” wrote one person.

-Source

The assignment was also slammed as “very disturbing,” age-inappropriate, and a poor example of traditional ethical projects that encouraged critical thought. “Liberal or conservative, thinking about how damning your kids‟ answers could be if the teacher didn‟t agree with their viewpoints,” wrote someone.
